C & W Conference Call for Proposals

The CCCC Committee on Computers in Composition and Communication (7Cs) invites all interested institutions to submit proposals to host either the onsite or online (or both) Computers and Writing conference.

The Computers and Writing Conference is probably the single most important annual conference for those who use computers and networks to teach writing. It brings together scholars, teachers, and professionals from all over the world in an intimate, welcoming setting to discuss the problems, successes, innovations, and logistics of computer and network-based writing instruction.

Since there is no formal organization that oversees the conference and its continuity from year to year, the Computers and Writing community relies upon the generosity of institutions of higher education to host the conference. Typically, these institutions can donate time, personnel, facilities, and limited funding to make the conference a success. Proposals include information about a proposed theme, possible keynote speakers, activities, and innovations that will make the conference a success.

The 7Cs welcomes proposals from individual institutions of higher education as well as those that are collaborative across institutions, including community colleges, K-12 institutions, and non-profits.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT TIMELINE/DEADLINE:
Please note that the deadline to propose to host either the ONSITE or ONLINE conference has been merged. Both deadlines now follow the ONSITE proposal requirements. (The CCCC website listed below currently has an outdated timeline for the online proposal.) We have changed the deadline so that proposals can accommodate joint-hosting of the onsite and online conferences in one year, although **this is NOT a requirement in proposing**. If you have any questions about which conference to propose for and/or what the benefits of joint- hosting both conferences would be, please contact Douglas Eyman at deyman@gmu.edu.

STEPS FOR PROPOSING:

1. Look over the following website and familiarize yourself with information about the schedule and requirements for the proposal(s):

2. Submit a statement of intent by sending an email to deyman@gmu.edu by September 15, two years prior to the year you are proposing to host. Indicate in the subject line which conference (onsite or online) you are interested in proposing to host. This statement can be an informal email that puts your name 'in the ring' so that 7Cs can keep track of who's interested and who the host-proposal contact person is.
3. Complete and submit an application (web-accessible applications preferred) to deyman@gmu.edu by November 1, two years prior to the year you are proposing to host. The application format can be found at http://computersandwriting.org/cwapp

For reference, you may wish to look at these past Computers and Writing conference websites; however you do not need to follow past conference formats or timelines. You are also advised to coordinate with schedulers of other organizations' conferences, such as Writing Across the Curriculum, Writing Program Administrators, RSA, and International Writing Centers Association, so that your planned dates do not conflict with these other meetings.
