C & W 2006 Proposal

Submitted by doug on Sat, 06/04/2005 - 16:01

Texas Tech University hereby requests to host C&W2006 in Lubbock, Texas, on May 25-28, 2006. Our application stands out for a number of reasons: in addition to many excellent graduate students we have fourteen faculty members on the planning committee who are experienced organizing and presenting at Computers and Writing, Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication, Society for Technical Communication, Association of Teachers of Technical Writing, Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education, National Council of Teachers of English, Writing Program Administration, the Conference on College Composition and Communication, and other conferences related to C&W. Since 1982, a portion of our faculty have attended every C&W Conference, we have chaired or co-chaired it three times through different institutions, and we have helped organize key conference components such as the Townhalls, the program, mentoring, proposal submissions, the online companion conference, scheduling, the GRN, and the post-conference special issue in Kairos. Our department's new facilities and general support, our proximity to the airport and reasonably-priced hotels, our integration of C&W with other projects and initiatives such as the PhD Online in Technical Communication and Rhetoric at TTU and our graduate student conference, as well as our emphasis in combining technical communication with rhetoric and computers and writing all indicate that we would put on a very successful conference.
